This outdoor exhibit features handmade sculptures made by school children from a dozen Lee County schools. Educators from participating schools will receive a 30” x 30” five-pointed star that students can paint or decorate with recyclable materials. Each school’s star will be on display in the gardens outside the museum.

While the green movement was not popular during their lifetime, Edison and Ford both recognized the importance of recycling and reusing materials. This exhibit showcases art inspired by Edison and Ford’s efforts to reuse products and their abilities to work toward a sustainable future. Artwork will be on display in the Edison Caretaker’s House through May 29.
Visitors may vote on their favorite piece by placing a ballot in a box after viewing the exhibit. They winners will be announced once the exhibition is complete in May 2022.

The class is taught by Bonnie D’Angelo, a certified yoga instructor. She is RYT200 certified with Yoga Alliance and working toward RYT300. She is certified in Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 and will continue the path towards Reiki Master & Energy Worker.

Garden Talk: Bromeliads

The Edison’s loved to grow Bromeliads in their gardens, and we continue to plant them throughout the property, adding color, form and texture wherever we find room. The Horticulture team will explain the many different types of bromeliads and where it is best to plant: sun, shade, or in trees, so they will thrive in your garden. Learn planting techniques, and long-term care for these tropical wonders. Wear comfortable clothing, shoes, hat and sunscreen. There will be many types of bromeliads for sale, and participants will receive a 20% off coupon for use on plant purchases in the Garden Shoppe. Participants will meet in front of the information booth after checking in at the ticket office.

This tour is a unique opportunity to take a sneak peek inside normally-closed off areas of Thomas Edison’s “Seminole Lodge” and Henry Ford’s “The Mangoes.” Approximate tour time is 90 minutes to two hours. (Allow additional time to view the museum, laboratory, and gardens.) Limited reservations are available for this tour, pre-registration is required by calling 239-335-3674. Tours on Tuesdays are offered on a first-come, first served basis.
