Silk Scarf Painting Class with Marie Dyer

Join us for a silk scarf painting class with Marie Dyer along the Caloosahatchee River! Participants will make a 14” x 72” silk scarf that can be worn or hung as a piece of artwork. They also make great holiday gifts for a loved one or close acquaintance. All materials are included in the fee. To ensure adequate supplies are available, please register online at edisonford.org at least 24 hours in advance. E-tickets can be redeemed at the ticket counter for a wristband.

The class will take place outdoors in the river pavilion.

Zen Drawing in the Succulent Garden with Artist Megan Kissinger

Join award-winning nature artist, Megan Kissinger, to learn the basics of drawing with informal drawing techniques. No experience is required for this creative class. Students will be inspired by nature as they stroll through the gardens. All materials are included. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch. Advance registration is required at edisonford.org. Garden Talk: Wicked Plants and How Plants Defend Themselves

January 8, 2022, at 10 a.m.

Plants employ many tactics to protect themselves from humans and animals to insure they may grow and reproduce. In this fun Garden Talk, we will explore many of the strategies employed by plants to do just this. In many cases, it may be obvious, but their self-preservation means may not always be readily visible. Be prepared to walk with us around the gardens after a brief overview, to see and understand wicked plants. Comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen are recommended, along with drinking water. Participants will receive a 20% off coupon for use towards plant purchases. Advanced registration is not required.

VIP Tour – Everglades City

January 15, 2022, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join us for our next VIP tour and learn all about the rich history of the Everglades! On our first stop, The Collier County Museum of the Everglades’ Manager, Thomas Lockyear, will give the group a 90-minute private tour of the Museum and Everglades City. Lunch will be included at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will visit the Smallwood Store in Chokoloskee. The final experience of the day will be an airboat and swamp buggy tour.

Etiquette at Edison Ford

This two-hour class will teach etiquette and social skills. Students will gather at the Edison Caretaker’s House for a lesson in good manners. This class teaches proper introduction, handshakes and dining etiquette during a three-course meal. Each student will receive a workbook and certificate of completion. Classes are taught by Suzanne Willis, who teaches etiquette class at Ritz-Carlton hotels throughout the nation.

Introduction to Florida Gardening- Part 1

This class will provide the foundation of how plants work, their nomenclature, and highlight the unique weather patterns and unusual soils found only in Florida Zone 100. Learn how to identify native plants, ornamentals, and recognize invasive plants established by the State of Florida. The last 20 minutes of the session will take place in the Palmetum, where the horticulture of palm trees will be discussed. Bring a notebook, pencil and bottle of water to class. Hats, sunscreen, and good walking shoes are recommended for the outdoor portion. Advance registration is required at edisonford.org. Class is limited to 25 participants.

Introduction to Florida Gardening – Part II

In Part II, we will provide an overview of Florida Friendly gardening, soils, and the proper use of fertilizers and soil amendments. Plants have unique pests and their identification will be covered as well as when to use chemical versus biological controls recommended by the Green Industries Best Management Practices concepts. We will also cover common weed identification and diseases, then wrap up with a discussion on selecting plants for your landscape, followed by a question-and-answer session. The last 20 minutes of the class will be held in the butterfly garden. At the conclusion of each class, each participant will receive a 20% discount coupon for plant purchases in the Garden Shoppe. Rhythm on the River: Michael Dutra & the Strictly Sinatra Band

January 28, 6-8 p.m.

Edison and Ford Winter Estates

2350 McGregor Blvd, Ft. Myers

Join us for the first Rhythm on the River concert of the year! This Sinatra tribute band has been performing all across the country since 2002. They opened for Howie Mandel at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and performed at the Governor Chris Christie inaugural event in 2010. Michael shares many similarities to Frank Sinatra: both are left handed, both born on December 12, they are the same height and both of their fathers were boxers at one time.

Come spend the evening along the river, while enjoying great music, a fantastic river view, and refreshing beverages! Bring your favorite lawn chair and a sweater if the weather is chilly. A food truck and beverage vendor will have refreshments available for purchase. No coolers permitted. Concert starts at 6 p.m.; doors open at 5:30 p.m. Parking is available in the Edison Ford lots only.
