Digital Discussion: The Battle of Fort Myers

In this informative talk, Site Program Manager, Holly Shaffer, will tell the story of the Battle of Fort Myers that occurred during the last few months of the civil war, highlighting members of the military who were stationed at the local fort. This fight was remembered as the “southernmost land battle of the Civil War.”

Etiquette Class

This two-hour class will teach etiquette and social skills. Students will gather at the Edison Caretaker’s House for a lesson in good manners. This class teaches proper introduction, handshakes and dining etiquette during a three-course meal. Each student will receive a workbook and certificate of completion.

Classes are taught by Suzanne Willis who teaches etiquette classes at Ritz-Carlton hotels throughout the entire nation. She started the etiquette classes in honor of her grandmother, Florence “Mimi” Black.  Register online at edisonford.org

Orchid Symposium

October 9 and 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join us for a special orchid sale and Symposium at Edison and Ford Winter Estates with classes and presentations by the SWFL Orchid Society. We will have multiple vendors selling orchids outdoors near the Garden Shoppe and surrounding areas, live music, and food and beverage vendors on site. We will also have pollinator plants, herbs, orchids, and fruit trees available for purchase in the Garden Shoppe. The plant sale is free to attend; however, presentations are $15 for Edison Ford members and $10 for non-members (does not include tours or museum and lab admission).

Silk Scarf Painting Class with Marie Dyer

Join artist Marie Dyer for a silk scarf painting class. Participants will make a 14” X 72” silk scarf that can be worn or hung as piece of artwork. All materials are included in the fee. Please register online at edisonford.org or at least 2 hours in advance. E-tickets can be redeemed at the ticket counter for a wristband.

Rhythm on the River: Appalachian Road Show 

October 29, 2021 at 6 p.m.

Edison and Ford Winter Estates

2350 McGregor Blvd, Ft. Myers

Join us for the first Rhythm on the River performance of the season, featuring the acoustic ensemble, Appalachian Road Show! The group performs bluegrass and folk music, as well as original songs. The event will take place on the Ford lawn, along the Caloosahatchee River. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 6 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased online at edisonford.org or at the ticket counter. Individual tickets purchased in advance are $30 for Edison Ford members or $35 for non-members; tickets at the door will be $40. Ticket holders should bring a lawn chair. A new VIP seating area will be open and may be reserved by the table for $225.


Hypertufa Wall Pot Class- A Two-Part Series

October 30 and November 6, 2021 at 9 a.m.

In part one, participants will create a mold using recycled plastic garden containers. In the following session, participants will de-mold the pot and apply a surface treatment to the mixture. Please bring a pair of rubber or latex kitchen gloves. All other supplies will be provided.
