Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille on Sanibel hosts its second annual 7K race in celebration of National Yucatán Shrimp Day. The unique 7K distance honors the seven ingredients in the restaurant’s iconic Yucatán shrimp, famously described by The New York Times as a “vacation on a plate.”

Last year’s inaugural race welcomed 350 participants and raised $7,500 for SCCF’s Sea School. This year’s event aims to raise $10,000 for the J.N. “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society, continuing Doc Ford’s long-standing support of local conservation efforts.

The race begins and ends at Doc Ford’s Sanibel location. Packet pickup details will be announced soon, with early‑morning pickup available on race day at 5:30 AM. Participants who register by May 8 are guaranteed a race shirt in their preferred size.

Following the run, Doc Ford’s opens early at 10 AM for post‑race festivities, including:

  • Complimentary mojito for participants
  • Live chef demonstrations of the signature Yucatán shrimp
  • Photobooth
  • Free drink stations sponsored by RNDC featuring Captains For Clean Water cocktails

Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners and by age group. Lin‑Mark Sports will provide live texted results and finish‑line videos. All participants are automatically entered to win a custom Doc Ford’s YETI cooler.

Additional details about National Yucatán Shrimp Day celebrations will be released in late April.
