Keep Lee County Beautiful Welcomes New Board Members
October 20, 2024 • ServicesKeep Lee County Beautiful, Inc. (KLCB) is committed to inspiring, educating, and involving the Lee County community in efforts to protect, beautify, and improve the local environment. KLCB is excited to welcome new members to its distinguished Board of Directors.
Joining the board is Shawn Smith from the Boston Red Sox and Jennifer Huber from Florida Power and Light. “I am thrilled to welcome Shawn and Jennifer to our expanding Board of Directors. Each brings their unique talent and strong passion to our community, making them invaluable additions to Keep Lee County Beautiful,” said Trish Fancher, Executive Director.
Shawn H. P. Smith‘s career in professional sports spans over three decades including pivotal roles in various capacities within the Boston Red Sox organization. Including significant business and baseball development projects, he is the driving force behind a multi-faceted operation in Florida. While spearheading diverse business development initiatives, he is also at the forefront of community engagement and philanthropy.
As a servant leader, Shawn also devotes time to Leadership Florida, The Horizon Council, Lee County Foundation for Public Schools, Captains for Clean Water, Keep Lee County Beautiful and a multitude of other organizations.
During a ten-year break from baseball, he was with the National Basketball Association as the Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer of the NBA Development League (now the Gatorade League) and previously as a Vice President in the NBA’s esteemed Team Marketing and Business Operations division.
He earned his master’s degree from Syracuse University’s prestigious Newhouse School and his undergraduate degree from Purdue University. Shawn was a member of the Red Sox organization during two World Series Championships (2004 & 2018), was inducted into Syracuse University’s Newhouse Professional Gallery in 2012, and Providence Day School’s (Charlotte, NC) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
Though their children are spread across the country, Shawn and his wife Heather call Charlotte County their home.
Jennifer Huber joined Florida Power & Light Company in January 2021 as the Community Relations Specialist for the West Area which includes Lee County. Her role includes supporting the community through key events and coordinating volunteer activities for employees. Prior to joining FPL, she spent about 30 years in the tourism industry including with the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau, VISIT FLORIDA, and the Sarasota Convention & Visitors Bureau (now called Visit Sarasota County). She earned her BS degree in Earth Science from SUNY Brockport and spent a decade working for a management company in three national parks: Death Valley, Everglades and Yellowstone.
Jennifer serves on the United Way of South Sarasota County Board of Directors and is Past Chairman of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association’s Board of Directors (term ended Dec. 31, 2022). She’s an award-winning writer and author and lives in North Port. She’s a member of the #NASASocial community, alumna of the FBI Tampa Citizens Academy, certified food judge, and frequent road tripper with her dog. Jennifer is thrilled being a cool auntie to her nephew and two nieces.
