Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has purchased the historic Edison Theatre building located at 1533 Hendry Street in downtown Fort Myers that currently houses its full-service branch. The three-story building will continue to serve as the bank’s downtown location, with the second and third floors occupied by current professional tenants.

The acquisition marks a significant milestone in the bank’s continued growth and investment in Southwest Florida. Since opening its Downtown Branch in 2017, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has become a trusted partner to businesses and residents throughout the city’s historic core.

“This iconic building represents more than just a place of business — it’s part of Fort Myers’ story,” said Kyle DeCicco, president and CEO of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank. “Downtown Fort Myers is one of the most historic and culturally rich areas in our region and acquiring the Edison Theatre building reaffirms our deep-rooted commitment to preserving its legacy while supporting the vibrant local business community we’re proud to serve.”

The bank will continue to offer full service personal and business banking, including lending services. The bank has no changes planned to the professional tenants currently leasing the upper floors, ensuring continuity and support for the broader downtown business ecosystem.

Founded in 2003, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has eight locations open throughout Lee County. In Fort Myers, at the bank’s McGregor Branch, located at 15975 McGregor Blvd., the staff is operating out of a temporary mobile banking unit due to major flood damage to the existing building. Construction on the new building is underway and is expected to be completed in 2025. On Fort Myers Beach, the bank is operating a temporary office open on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while its permanent full-service branch is under development.
