SCAM ALERT – IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR FORT MYERS BEACH RESIDENTS

The Town of Fort Myers Beach has received reports of a scam currently impacting our community. A criminal organization is sending fake utility notices to residents that appear to come from the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce. This is not legitimate.

Please know:

• Utility bills will never come from the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce.
• Official utility communications only come from the Town of Fort Myers Beach –Utility Billing and Water Services.

We have confirmed that two residents have already been harmed. In these cases, residents saw what appeared to be a reasonable utility charge (approximately $250), followed by a second unauthorized charge the next week of approximately $1,600.

We are deeply concerned by these reports and want to ensure all residents are aware of this scam.

What you should do:

• Do not click links or make payments from emails, texts, or notices claiming to be utility bills unless they are clearly from the Town of Fort Myers Beach
• Verify any utility billing questions by contacting Town Utility Billing directly
• Monitor your bank and credit card statements closely
• Report suspicious messages or charges to your financial institution immediately
