The Mound House offers lots of activities such as:

Eco-Kayak Tour – Explore the winding mangrove creeks and go places only a kayak can go on this guided eco-tour of the Estero Bay. This beginner friendly tour allows you experience and learn more about the natural beauty of a mangrove estuary and the history of the area. Kayak Tours can be purchased on our website.

Shell Mound Tour – Discover the archaeology and history of the site and learn what clues were uncovered about this nearly 2,000 year old shell mound. This hands-on tour will explore the environmental and cultural history of the site and feature replica artifact demonstrations. Tours are offered daily at 10 AM and 2PM.

Speaker- Ellie Bunting

Title- Vanishing Icons: Exploring the Stories Behind Lost Landmarks

Description: This presentation will take a deeper dive into the history of the historic landmarks that have shaped our island’s history. As we explore these lost icons, we’ll reflect on the broader themes of preservation, the evolving nature of our town, and the delicate balance between progress and heritage. “Vanishing Icons” is not just a presentation about lost buildings; it’s a tribute to the collective memory embedded in the bricks and mortar of our shared past. Light food and drink included in admission.

Speaker Biography: Ellie Bunting came to Fort Myers Beach as a toddler. She attended Beach School, Cypress Lake Junior/Senior High School, and Edison Junior College. She moved to Tampa for a few years to complete her degrees in English and Reading Education at the University of South Florida and returned to the island where she still resides. Ellie recently retired from Florida SouthWestern State College where she spent the last 43 years as an English Professor. Publications include Breaking Away: A Lab Approach to Writing; GrammarWorks, Grammar Connection; Chronicles: The History of Southwest Florida (published by News-Press); Chronicles: The History of Cape Coral (News-Press).

Speaker Biography: Janel Trull has been the Executive Director of the Cape Coral Museum of History since 2019. Trull’s previous experiences include being associate curator of the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach and curator of the Elliott Museum in Stuart.

Kayak Clean-up Paddle

Florida’s First Flowers: Afternoon Tea
