9th Annual Paint The Beach
A plein air festival in Fort Myers Beach Florida!
The Fort Myers Beach Art Association and our sponsors: Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Friends of the Arts, Plein Air Magazine, Smokin Oyster Bar and Grill, Oyster Bay RV Park, and Red Coconut RV Park, are pleased to invite interested artists to register for Paint the Beach – a Plein Air Festival. This three-day festival brings the excitement and beauty of the plein air painting tradition to Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
About the Competition
This event will run from November 1st – 3rd. Up to 60 artists paint within Fort Myers Beach and Lovers Key state park. Possible scenes include beach views, historic buildings, beach businesses and marine subjects. Artists may turn in one completed, framed and ready to hang painting. Work must be done “en plein air” without the assistance of photography.
Beginning on Thursday, November 1st, be on the lookout for artists painting on Fort Myers Beach (Estero Island), San Carlos Island and Lovers Key State Park. These Locations offer picturesque settings providing opportunities for painters to capture the feel of the community in a unique and memorable way.
Artists will compete for over $5,000 in cash and prizes. First place earns a prize of $1,000 & 1/3-page ad in Plein Air Magazine, Second Place recevies $750 and Third Place gets $500. There are also various named awards (Merit, Honorable Mention). Award amounts may be changed at the discretion of FMBAA. The Awards Judge for the Plein Air competition is Joe Palmerio of Sarasota, Florida.
Businesses of the Town of Fort Myers Beach are pleased to welcome participating artists to this festival! The Paint the Beach registration fee includes a goodie bag of special items.
Reception and Awards Ceremony
Paintings created during the 2018 Paint the Beach plein air festival will be on display and for sale at the Awards Ceremony and Collectors Preview Reception on Saturday, November 3rd at the Fort Myers Beach Art Association and Gallery [map]. Appetizers and refreshments will be served and there will be a donation bar. Unsold works of art from that evening may stay available for sale in the Gallery until November 8th.
