The Ostego Bay Marine Science Center will host an Open House in honor of Earth Day on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am until 3 pm.
Earth Day Network’s mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 50,000 partners in nearly 195 countries to build environmental democracy. From poisoning and injuring marine life to disrupting human hormones, from littering our beaches and landscapes to clogging our waste streams and landfills, the exponential growth of plastics is now threatening the survival of our planet. In response, Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to providing the information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and behavior about plastics.
Founded in 1991, the Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center is a self-funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission of the Ostego Bay Foundation, Inc. is to promote the understanding, preservation and enhancement of our unique marine environment through education, research and community involvement. The Foundation provides interactive educational experiences to encourage stewardship of our natural resources. Simply put “Conservation through Education”. Joanne Semmer, President of the Ostego Bay Foundation, stated “Throughout the existence of the Ostego Bay Foundation, we have found the more people learn about our area ecosystems, the more they are concerned and become stewards of our natural resources. Education plays a very important role as once people learn they share their new-found knowledge which instills changes in behavior and may influence government stakeholders.”
Everyone is invited to the Marine Science Center located at 718 Fisherman’s Wharf (Across the parking lot from Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Café) on Saturday, April 21st from 10am to 3 pm to learn and share Earth Day experiences about the Fort Myers Beach natural resources.
