​​Increase Your Boating Knowledge And Skills With These Courses

America’s Boating Course 3rd Edition

This is the basic boating course (offered Nationally in the United States and recognized by all State Authorities) and is an introduction to boating (boats of all types), boating laws, boating safety equipment, the how-to’s of safe boating, basic navigation aids and rules, and protecting your boat.  There will be an exam at the end of the eight (8) hour course, which is spread over two sessions, and those that pass will receive a Florida Boater’s Card (which is required for all people born after January 1, 1988).  The cost for the course is $50.00/$70.00 for two people sharing materials that include the Course Book, pamphlets on Aids to Navigation, federal requirements, trailering and more.  Those that successfully complete this course may be eligible for our “Jump start” program, an on-the-water course for boat owners offered at no charge for those who also join the San Carlos Bay Sail & Power Squadron/America’s Boating Club.

In-Person: Saturday, May 15 & Saturday, May 22, 2021,
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each of the two days.

Virtual: Tuesday, May 25 & Tuesday, June 1, 2021,
6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., each of the two days.

Local Waters – Local Chart

This course is directed toward newer boaters and/or boaters new to the area waters, as well as those who wish to learn/understand chart reading. Using chart # 11427, boaters will learn some of the basics of navigation in the Fort Myers area, including understanding the “ICW”. Students should purchase and bring their own copy of chart #11427 (see our website at www.SCBPS.com for detailed instructions on obtaining the appropriate chart). Many area restaurants, and other accessible-by-water destinations, will be mentioned. This class is a one-day, four-hour course, offered on a Saturday morning. The cost for the course is $45.00/$70.00 for two people sharing materials.
